Redundant Fieldbus Power Supplies

MTL fieldbus power supplies are designed to provide redundant power for up to eight FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1 segments and are suitable for use with all fieldbus systems. They are optimised for use in general purpose and hazardous area High Energy Trunk architectures which, with the appropriate FieldPlus wiring components, supports fieldbus devices using all hazardous area protection techniques. The power supplies are designed to optimise cabinet layouts, achieving the maximum number of fieldbus segments powered per cabinet while providing space for installing and maintaining cable connections and reducing the operating temperature. The F809F-Plus physical layer Fieldbus Diagnostics Module may be installed on any 9180 or F800 carrier to automatically collect and distribute additional diagnostic information for each of the eight fieldbus segments.

The NEW 9180 range should be selected for all new applications. Its unique N+1 redundancy approach provides flexibility to the system designer meeting the initial demands of the project with 2 power supply modules/segment, whilst having the ability to add a third power supply later to meet expansion requirements.  The advantage to the operator is typically a 25% saving in initial capital cost compared to a conventional, 1+1 redundant architecture. High system availability is achieved with the use of passive components for power conditioning, galvanic isolation and power regulation delivering redundant fieldbus power at up to 28V, 500mA/segment. The product range also includes power supply modules that can be used to provide power for segments with Ex ic spurs, to be used in conjunction with MTL's F300 Series Megablock device couplers and F30 Ex ic adaptor.

9180 range redundant fieldbus power supplies offer the following benefits:

The F800 range represented the industry's first eight segment, high density fieldbus power supply. The module carriers provide wire terminations for eight fieldbus segments as well as mounting two F801 or F802 power supply modules. The F801 power supply modules provide 8 outputs of 21.5V, 350mA. The F802 power supply modules provides 8 outputs of 28V, 500mA for applications with fieldbus trunk lengths greater than 600m or heavily loaded fieldbus barrier applications.  Both options ensure that one Fieldbus terminator is included for each segment. The F800 carriers themselves are completely free of electronic components to maximize their MTBF and system availability. 
F800 range redundant fieldbus power supplies offer the following benefits:

  • Choice of rising cage clamp screw or spring clamp terminals
  • On-line diagnostics option 

The FPS range power conditioners provide redundant fieldbus power for a single fieldbus segment and is available with or without a built-in terminator.
